Holly Beach, Louisiana is sometimes known as the "Cajun Riviera". It is located in Southwest Louisiana, east of Port Arthur, Texas, along a very scenic stretch of highway known as The Gulf Beach Highway (Louisiana State Highway 82). I passed through and stopped for a break at the beach in March 2019. It has been a popular beach destination for many decades, however, in 2005 it was leveled by Hurricane Rita. It has since been partially rebuilt, however, it has been flooded 3 more times by other hurricanes subsequent to Rita. The homes you see today tend to be built on stilts and are primarily used as second vacation homes or guest houses rather than as a primary residence because of the recurrent threat of hurricanes. The views of the Gulf of Mexico from this beach are mesmerizing.
