CEDAR POINT KANSAS GHOST TOWN

Cedar Point is probably my favorite ghost town in the state of Kansas. It's not completely abandoned but is tiny, only about two dozen residents. Cedar Point was never a large town, it's peak population was 190 people a century ago. Cedar Point is located in Chase County, which is the setting of William Least Heat Moon's travel classic "Prairy Erth". The town is easily accessible from U.S. Highway 50, west of Cottonwood Falls. Turn south from the highway at the sign and it is less than a mile away. The town still has a few homes, a church, a small park, and a modern post office. The main attraction is the old flour mill on the Cottonwood River which was built in 1875 and makes for a great photo op.

The Cottonwood River runs behind the mill. Sitting by the river here makes for a relaxing break while traveling US 50 which has been nicknamed "The Loneliest Road". I like to find an excuse to stop here any time I am passing through this area.
