Jungle Gardens is located in South Louisiana and is a drive-thru tropical park in a swamp known as Avery Island. One can also get out of the car and walk the grounds, although you need to pay attention to your surroundings as their are alligators who live on the island. I saw a few of them in some of the canals when I first drove in although I did not encounter any on the areas I walked on foot. They generally are not aggressive toward humans unless threatened, however, I would not want to be careless and unexpectedly startle one of them either. There is an area of the park called Bird City. Although I'm not necessarily a bird watcher I found this area fascinating. The park also includes a small Buddhist shrine and a gift shop featuring lots of cool Louisiana products and tasty goods from the Tabasco company, which is based on Avery Island.
