When traveling the Gulf Coast, do yourself a favor. Instead of taking Interstate 10 east from New Orleans, take old U.S. Highway 90 instead. It will take you right along the coast, allowing for beach scenery rather than looking at the back of 18-wheelers on the interstate. The first city of note you will come to east of New Orleans is Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Stop and cool your heels at the beach.
