BLACKFISH TRAIL & LITTLE MILL CREEK TRAIL

During the past year with the COVID 19 nightmare, hiking trails have been a godsend, not only because I have not felt right about taking any auto road trips, but also for the opportunity they provide to help combat depression, clear thoughts, and also for something to do to fight the boredom of being stuck at home way more than I like or am used to. I have an extensive trail system within walking distance of my house in the Kansas City suburbs. Two of the trails are called the Blackfish Trail and Little Mill Creek Trail.

PRO WRESTLING HALL OF FAME

In 2017 I visited the Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame in Wichita Falls TX. It was a decent-sized museum, not too big, just right for a couple of hours of hanging out and taking in the artifacts. It was a treasure trove in particular for those of us who grew up watching wrestling in the 1980s when the territories were still going and you had a variety of promotions to choose from. Being in North Texas, as you might expect, the Hall of Fame featured a goodly amount of exhibits and memorabilia dedicated to World Class Championship Wrestling, including the original WCWA World Heavyweight Championship belt that was used when World Class withdrew from the NWA in 1986 up until the AWA/CWA/World Class unification match in December 1988 between Kerry Von Erich and Jerry Lawler in Chicago at Super Clash 3. It then became part of the "Unified World Title" for awhile until the belt was no longer used. The original WCWA World Heavyweight Champion was "Ravishing" Rick Rude and it was also held by Chris Adams, Kerry Von Erich, Kevin Von Erich, Al Perez, Iceman King Parsons, and Black Bart. While at the museum, former World Class wrestler John Mantel was there hanging out and I had a good conversation with him about the old days, The museum features a lot of memorabilia from other promotions besides World Class too. See if you can identify some of the different people represented in the following photos.

TALLGRASS PRAIRIE PRESERVE

The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is located near Strong City, Kansas near US Highway 50 and Kansas State Highway 177 in the heart of the Flint Hills. The nature preserve features free range bison, a one-room schoolhouse, historic ranch house, and hiking trails. Best of all, it's free.

The highlight of the preserve is a chance to view bison in the wild. Signs warn visitors to keep a distance from them as there are no fences between the bison and the hiking trail around them. I got a little closer to them than recommended and you can be sure I "tip-toed" my way past. None of them tried to charge me or acted aggressively, a few of them stopped to look at me but then went back to munching on grass.

Another highlight of the preserve is the old one-room schoolhouse.

There is also a historic ranch house dating back to the 1880s.

The preserve also features plenty of hiking trails to get a good walking workout in.
