SQUARE BUTTE 081525

Square Butte is a natural feature in Chouteau County Montana. It is a National Natural Landmark. I had to drive a narrow dirt road, that was more like a trail, to even get this close to it. Google maps seemed to indicate that there was hiking access from this point, but I was running a bit short on time and didn't try to walk out to it, and it also appeared to be on private land and I wasn't sure if I might need permission from the landowner to go further. A guy in a pickup had driven down to this area after me and seemed to live there but he didn't seem to mind me being there taking pictures and didn't bother me at all. Date of visit 08/15/25.
