GULF SHORES

People don't usually think of beaches when thinking of Alabama, however, there is a very pleasant stretch of beaches along the Gulf Coast between Pascagoula, Mississippi and Pensacola, Florida. Gulf Shore Beach is a fun road trip stop. The gift shop with the giant purple octopus is a must.

I happened to be on the beach near sunset and took some pics of the Gulf.

ALLIGATOR ALLEY

One of my stops on my spring 2019 road trip was Alligator Alley in Summerdale AL. This was an alligator preserve that afforded the opportunity to get an up-close look at the fascinating creatures in their natural swamp habitat. I walked a boardwalk and fed some baby alligators and then was in time to observe some of the adults swim in from the river for their feeding time and they feasted on wild boar limbs (the wild boar population can be a problem in this region and the gators are helpful in helping to control the population).

SANTA FE LAKE FALLS

Santa Fe Lake Falls is a waterfall in Edgerton, Kansas at the Edgerton City Lake a few blocks off of US Highway 56 along Sunflower Road. It is most productive the day after a heavy rain. I visited about 3 days after a heavy rain and it was still flowing, although not at 100%.

MORE FROM LACKMAN PARK

Some more images and videos of small waterfalls in a park near my house, these were taken last year, March 2020

MOBILE BAY

While traveling the Gulf Coast a few years ago, I decided to bypass Mobile AL by taking a highway from Pascagoula MS to Dauphin Island AL and then taking a ferry from Dauphin Island across Mobile Bay to Gulf Shores AL. Seagulls followed the ferry for most of the trip, eager to swoop in for bread crumbs offered by some of the passengers. I was able to get a good look at the gulls in flight and marvel at their flying skills.
